Days 2-5 LAIKIPIA

Segera Retreat flying luxury safari in Kenya

From Nairobi, you’ll travel to Laikipia to start the first part of your two-part safari. Laikipia is fast becoming one of Kenya’s most popular regions, and for good reason. The activities on offer are second to none and the accommodation options range from adventurously authentic, to categorically opulent. As this is the ‘as luxurious as safari in Kenya gets’ trip, you’ll stay at the once-private-home-turned-villa-oasis. The lavish villas feature their own art gallery-like displays, with contemporary art pieces from the Zeitz Collection. During the three nights at Segera, you can while away the days in the spa, at the bar, or by the swimming pool, or enjoy some of the more unusual excursions, including a tour of the property’s herb gardens, a stay in the ‘Bird Nest’, a flight in the ‘Out of Africa’ biplane, and taking a helicopter for a bird’s-eye view of the flamingo-filled lakes of the Great Rift Valley. You can also meet the inspiring trainees at the Conservation Ranger Unit and spend a few hours with the anti-poaching tracker dog teams.

Days 5-9 MAASAI MARA

Elephant wildlife, Angama Mara, Kenya

With probably the finest views in Africa, and certainly the most iconic view, Angama Mara is your base for the four nights that you are in the Maasai Mara. ‘Angama’ in Swahili means to be suspended in mid-air and you will really feel like you are on top of the world thanks to its floor-to-ceiling glass windows and 180-degree vistas that sweep down towards the wildlife plains. Angama Mara has a private access road into the exclusive Mara Triangle, one of the best managed Mara conservancies, and these last few nights of your trip will focus on the Great Migration and great number of mammals that reside in this area – 450 bird species, two million migrating wildebeest and zebras, and an entourage of predators that follow. However, the lodge also offers activities like walking safaris, hot air balloon safaris, cultural excursions, and a safari photoshoot.
