When booking solo travellers, we take care to use specific hotels, guesthouses, or safari lodges in South Africa that have only a very small single supplement, or do not charge one at all.
As with so much of Africa, the single supplement makes solo travel much more expensive than travelling as one of a couple. Nevertheless, it is possible to arrange a great trip within a reasonable budget!

South Africa has a major advantage over the remainder of Africa in that it has a level of boutique guest house accommodation that you do not get elsewhere on the continent. These little guest houses offer superb value for money and a personal approach to service and hospitality. Also, they are also usually located in the busy, interesting parts of cities and are consequently great hotels for solo travellers.
We also run a number of different trips that are designed specifically for solo travellers in South Africa. We have a selection of set departure trips that run weekly. By joining a group, solo travellers are able to see the main parts of the country without breaking the bank! Although the majority of rooms do have single supplements, they are minimal.
There are certain properties in South Africa that charge no single supplement.
Our favourites have always been the &Beyond properties – specifically their Kruger properties (Kirkman’s, Ngala Safari Lodge and Ngala Tented Camp) as well as their properties in Phinda. Leopard Hills and Kings Camp are also good for single travellers.
The following have either a small single supplement or no single supplement at all – Cape Cadogan, Four Rosmead, 2 Inn 1 Kensington, The Last Word and the Rusthof.
One of our most popular value options, this trip begins in vibrant Cape Town before moving on to the Timbavati and the Sabi Sands for some seriously epic wildlife viewing! All properties we use are perfect for solo explorers.
Visit the Cape and Kruger on this seriously good trip to Cape Town, the Timbavati, and the Sabi Sands! Sightings of the Big Five are highly likely on this itinerary, as we use two of South Africa’s best safari camps.
Luxury safaris are where South Africa excels. This amazing trip includes Cape Town as well as two epic big-game areas – the Timbavati and Sabi Sand – and seriously good safari camps that rival the sheer quality of the game-viewing experience.
